Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At 27 years old when he began his studies, he was accepted into the National Theatre School of Denmark. He graduated in 1994. Apart from his role in the drama series released worldwide under the name The Killing, he subsequently was a part of two other internationally popular Danish dramas, Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He played Charles Augustus Magnussen, a blackmailer, in an episode of BBC Drama Sherlock. In the American TV series House of Cards, he played the role of the president of Russia. In 2018, he won an International Emmy Award for his role as the president of Russia on the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. It was shown in the UK in 2019. He stated that he and his brother first learned English through listening to and studying the Monty Python songs.
